About Sport Climbing

Sport Climbing has 3 disciplines:

  • Bouldering

  • Difficulty (Lead Climbing for Youth B and older, Top Rope for Youth C and younger)

  • Speed

Governing bodies:

In each discipline, athletes can progress through various levels of competition:

  • Qualifier Competitions: Each season, the OCF sanctions one or more qualifier competitions in each discipline. Results from these events are used to qualify athletes to Provincial Championships. All athletes are welcome to attend OCF Qualifiers.

  • Provincial Championships: The OCF runs a Provincial Championship per discipline each season. Youth D, Youth C, Youth B, Youth A, Junior and Adult categories are eligible to qualify for Provincials. Youth E are not eligible to compete at Provincials in accordance with the LTAD.

  • Regional Championships: In some disciplines, CEC sanctions regional competitions for each of Eastern and Western Canada. Youth C and up are eligible to qualify for Regionals.

  • National Championships: In each discipline, CEC sanctions a final national competition each season for the best climbers across the country. Youth B and up are eligible to qualify for Nationals.

In addition, CEC runs a High Performance Program and fields teams of athletes to international IFSC competitions each year .
