Bouldering Season

Youth A, Jr, Open Competitions

For local competitions, Youth A, Jr & Open Qualification Rounds will be held on Saturday. Finals will be held on Sunday.

Qualification rounds: ISO format, 5-on-5-off. Competitors will climb five (5) problems in a predetermined order, with 5 minutes climbing time per problem and 5 minutes rest between problems (in designated areas). Competitors will be ranked by # Tops/ # Zones/ # Tops attempts/ # Zones attempts. The top 8 athletes in each category will proceed to finals. 

Finals: ISO format, 4-on-4-off. Competitors will climb four (4) problems, with 4 minutes climbing time per problem and 4 minutes rest between problems (in designated areas). Competitors will be ranked by # Tops/ # Zones/ # Tops attempts/ # Zones attempts. Countback (to ranking from preceding round) will be used to break ties.

An Isolation Zone will be in effect for Youth A, JR & Open competitions: When competitors check in, they will enter an isolation area (ISO) and will not be permitted to leave until the competition starts. Only competitors, coaches and officials are allowed into ISO; parents are not permitted. Competitors and coaches are not allowed to communicate with anyone outside of ISO (electronic communication devices are not permitted). Once in the competition area, competitors may not communicate with anyone other than officials until they are finished competing.

Youth B & C Competitions

Youth B & C local competitions will take place on the Sunday of their respective competition weekends.

Format: One ISO format, 5-on-5-off IFSC Qualification-style round, no finals. Competitors will climb five (5) problems in a predetermined order, with 5 minutes climbing time per problem and 5 minutes rest between problems (in designated areas). Competitors will be ranked by # Tops/ # Zones/ # Tops attempts/ # Zones attempts. 

An Isolation Zone will be in effect for Youth B & C competitions: When competitors check in, they will enter an isolation area (ISO) and will not be permitted to leave until the competition starts. Only competitors, coaches and officials are allowed into ISO; parents are not permitted. Competitors and coaches are not allowed to communicate with anyone outside of ISO (electronic communication devices are not permitted). Once in the competition area, competitors may not communicate with anyone other than officials until they are finished competing.

Youth D & E Competitions

Youth D/E local competitions will take place on Saturdays. 

Format: A modified scramble with 8 problems (90 minutes, maximum 8 tries per problem). Competitors may attempt problems in any order they choose. Competitors will be ranked by # Tops/ # Zones/ # Tops attempts/ # Zones attempts. There is no isolation zone in effect for Youth D/E competitions.

Difficulty Season

Difficulty Youth C, B,  A, Jr, Open Competitions

For local competitions, Youth A, Jr & Open will compete on Saturday and B & C on Sunday.

Qualification rounds: IFSC World Cup style. Competitors climb two qualifier routes, in a predetermined order and can watch each other climb.  Competitors only have one attempt on each and are scored points per hold. The top 8 athletes in each category will advance to finals.

Finals: IFSC World Cup style. Consists of one route, competitors are not allowed to watch each other climb.

An isolation zone will be in effect for Finals: When finalists check in, they will enter into the ISO area and are not permitted to leave until their turn to compete. Only competitors, coaches and officials are allowed into ISO, parents are not permitted. Competitors and coaches are not allowed to communicate with anyone outside of isolation. (Electronic communication devices are not permitted). Once in the competition area, competitors may not communicate with anyone other than officials until they have finished their climb.

Lead climbing certification: Climbers in B category and above who are lead climbing in competition typically must be lead tested by the hosting facility. Athletes should arrive early at competitions to allow time for this, or arrange a lead test in advance of the competition where possible. Typically, this testing is only required to be done once at each climbing gym as most gyms retain the test results along with their signed waivers.

Youth D & E Competitions

Youth D/E local competitions will take place on Saturdays. 
Format: Modified scramble. Competitors climb two qualifier routes, in a predetermined order and can watch each other climb.  Competitors have two attempts on each and are scored points per hold. Score will take attempts into account to help eliminate ties.
